Tour Description

Visit the magnificent splendour of Cradle Mountain. Travelling deep into the Tasmanian forest from Launceston, surround yourself in the pristine waterfalls, lakes and wildlife of this World Heritage listed National Park.

• Travel through green pastures south west of Launceston, towards Cradle Mountain National Park
• Pass through the quaint and historical towns of Carrick, Hagley, Westbury, Deloraine and Sheffield
• Stop at Ashgrove Cheese Farm to sample and learn how cheese is made
• Traverse through dense forest and mountainous terrain and look for wombats, potoroos and wallabies in Cradle Mountain National Park

This amazing tour departs from the corner of Cimitiere and St John Streets, Launceston, with accommodation pickups available on request at 8:30 am. Taking this journey in a modern comfortable coach with our friendly driver and fellow intrepid travellers, you head towards the spectacular Cradle Mountain National Park. You will visit the rural farming town of Deloraine to enjoy the country feel and culture. With its perfect location, it serves as a starting point to explore the area of Cradle Mountain, with the backdrop of the Great Western Tiers.

While visiting this beautiful region, you will make several stops at various interesting spots. Ashgrove Cheese Farm is an award winning facility where you can try creamy, farm fresh bottled milk, ice-cream, cream, butter and various sumptuous cheeses. Take a sneak peek through the viewing window and get a behind the scenes look at how the farm produces their cheese using traditional techniques combined with modern methods. You will also take an interesting look at Sheffield – also known as ‘The Town of Murals’. The first vibrant mural was painted in December 1986 and since this time, over 60 murals that depict the areas natural beauty and rich history are painted on walls and buildings throughout this town. A number of artists’ studios are open to the public and these include fine art, photography, glass, pottery, woodcraft and ceramics.

While in the valley, you will also visit Waldheim Chalet, or ‘Home in the Forest’. The building of this unique facility was commenced in March 1912 by Kate and Gustav Weindorfers and it enabled the tourist of yesteryear and today to stay in comfort in this spectacular region. This purpose built chalet was constructed of King Billy pine, harvested from the adjacent forest.

With a choice of two very special spots – Cradle Village Café or Sheffield – in which to have a well-deserved aromatic coffee and a sumptuous lunch, you will be refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to immerse yourself in an afternoon of more superb scenery. Taking a short stroll along the Enchanted Forest walk through the thick pencil pine lush green forest, you will have plenty of photo opportunities when you reach the spectacular thunderous waterfall. Then it’s off for another short walk to the picturesque Dove Lake. Standing in the shadow of the powerful and majestic Cradle Mountain will leave you awe-struck

After a wonderful day of spectacular sightseeing combined with interesting stops along the way, you’ll arrive back in Launceston at approximately 5 pm and be dropped off at your original pickup location.
